Four Partings at the Cross

Today as we consider the cross, the death of Jesus, the Bible reveals certain items or things that were parted during this event.
Our scripture passage today in the gospel of Matthew identifies four things which are “parted,” or separated at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Each of these items have great application for the world today since they explain why Jesus Christ had to endure such a torturous death.

  • The Parted Garments – The Shame of the Cross (v34-44)
  • The Parted Fellowship – The Sorrow of the Cross (v45-49)
  • The Parted Veil – The Success of the Cross (v51)
  • The Parted Graves – The Security of the Cross (v51)
  • The Gospels – Four Portaits of the One Saviour

    1 John 1:1-4; 2 Peter 1:16-21
People wonder why there should be four books at the beginning of the New Testament telling what is essentially the same story.
Why is there not one exhaustive, chronological biography of the Lord Jesus Christ?
Why Four Gospels? The answer is very simple: these books were inspired by the Spirit of God and written by His chosen human penmen to meet specific needs.
They were addressed to real people in real situations who needed some specific aspect of the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ to be emphasized to them.

Why We Should Think About Hell

    Revelation 20:11-15
Like Heaven, Hell is a literal place.
Hell is a place of conscious, unending torment and punishment separated from God forever. That is what the Bible states.
Jesus came to save you to Heaven, but from Hell.
Today in order to consider what the Bible says about Hell, we go to the final book of the Bible, the book of Revelation and the end of all human history.
It is here that we find what must be the most sobering passage in all of Scripture, what many refer to as the Great White Throne Judgement.

Why We Should Think About Heaven

    Colossians 3:1-11
Almost everyone wants to go to Heaven, but few really think about it.
Heaven is a real place with real characteristics, therefore we must have a right understanding about Heaven.
    Today we consider:

    • Why we should think about Heaven
    • What Heaven is
    • Where Heaven is
    • How to get to Heaven
    • How a right view of Heaven will change our life now.
